The Union Tavern is a Fuller’s pub, and mainly had London Brews on tap and in the fridge, along with LBA’s Collaboration stout. It also does cracking pub grub.
But we were there for Shamblemoose’s American Brown Ale, which they describe as a ‘mahogany-coloured beer isn’t your grandpa’s brown ale’. It was definitely smooth with depths of flavour, and as they say “sessionable.” And, boy were we happy to contribute to the 216 pints that was drunk on the night!
Shamblemoose are a wife and husband duo Lera & Matthew, who in 2010 decided to make a hobby into their job and start brewing. Coming from the mountains of Wyoming, head brewer Lera had grown up within a rich brewing culture where home-brewing and local town breweries are the norm.
It sure is a pleasure to see them join the expanding London brewery roster and we’re excited about the tasting their next brews, which apparently include a Golden Ale and a Smoked Porter. Can’t wait!
